Make It Your Own

At the National Youth Workers Convention you'll find everything you need to make the weekend whatever you want or need-for your ministry, your team, and your own soul.

Here's a brief step-by-step for some of the things you can make NYWC into. Share your own ideas of what you can make NYWC here, and maybe we'll post your idea here too! Info coming soon!

Make NYWC a Convention

  • Do as many things from the schedule as you possibly can
  • Attend all the General Sessions
  • Go to one seminar in each seminar series (and buy the DVDs or mp3s of all the ones you can't attend)
  • Spend lots of time in the Exhibit Hall and YS Store to stock up on resources for youth ministry
  • Spend your meal times hanging out with other youth workers and talk about what you've been learning
  • Stay up late for the Late Night Options or to spend more time hanging with other youth workers

Make NYWC "camp for youth workers"

  • Sleep in late
  • Stay up late
  • Throw Frisbees in the hallways
  • Eat really bad food at all hours of the day and night
  • Run up the down escalators
  • Play video games in the YS Store
  • Have relay races from the hotel to the convention center
  • Play all kinds of random games in the Exhibit Hall
  • Take pictures with all your new friends (since you'll cry when you have to leave each other!)

Make NYWC a spiritual retreat

  • Come early for the Pre-Convention Event–Come Home: An Invitation to Rest in God
  • Spend hours in the prayer chapel or labyrinth
  • Join in the prayer services throughout the day
  • Spend time in the Sanctuary
  • Meet with a spiritual director
  • Go to the seminars in the "Soul Care" track
  • Go to the General Sessions for the worship time (stay for the speakers– they might just minister to your soul too!)
  • Pray with (and for) other youth workers

Make NYWC a vacation

  • Sleep in and order breakfast-in-bed
  • Skip the seminars and General Sessions so you can take a tour of the city (then buy the DVDs or MP3s to take home)
  • Go to local museums, shops, restaurants
  • Stay in your room and rent movies (appropriate ones!) that you haven't seen yet
  • Go to the Evening & Late Night Options (where else can you see so many big names– and it's included in your registration!)
  • Buy souvenirs for your friends, family, church staff, and students (or just send them a postcard!)
  • Take lots of pictures or videos for your memory books

Make it a personalized training experience

  • Meet with a youth ministry consultant to discuss issues pertinent to your ministry
  • Follow a track of seminars that address the needs you have for your own development or for your ministry
  • Participate in the Sunday morning connecting session.
  • Find resources in the YS Store or Exhibit Hall that can add to your training experience
