BIOGRAPHY
Archie Honrado
A member of Youth Specialties’ Soul Shaper Board, Archie is a 22-year veteran urban youth worker. He currently serves as a missionary with YWAM (Youth With a Mission), as a speaker and teacher with Urban Youth Workers Institute in Los Angeles, and as an associate pastor at Avenue Community Church in Ventura, California.

In a world of hurt, our prayers are the first and best means of partnering with the God who loved—and still loves—this world enough to send his Son to die for it. This will be an opportunity to gather with others to pray as we’re led for specific situations, for geographic areas and the people living in them, for those who suffer and God’s action in relieving that suffering. We’ll use words, symbols, pictures, maps, conversation, silence, some directed prayer, and much time for individual listening for God’s guidance for our prayers.

Praying with art or icons has historically been a controversial topic. Initially, art and icons were important because they provided a visual expression of Scripture at a time when very few Christians were able to read. Today, many Protestants believe Christians who use icons are praying to the icon. This isn’t true. It’s more accurate to say we pray with or through icons, similar to praying with Scripture or praying with the inspiration provided by the handiwork of God’s creation. Come learn and experience this spiritual practice and decide for yourself.
