Our bodies are a very important part of prayer. Through our body language, we communicate to God. Even if we aren’t cognizant of what our bodies are saying about how we feel about God—they’re speaking volumes. All through the Scripture we see examples of people using their bodies to communicate to God. Start your day by learning and practicing how to fully engage your body in prayer to God through your hands, feet, bodily postures, the orant gesture, the sign of the cross, and more.
Have you ever jogged with others in silence? Here’s an opportunity to open your body to exercise as you open your eyes, mind, and heart to the city in prayer.
This time will be set aside to participate in the lost spiritual practices of confession, repentance, and mourning. Spiritual directors and pastors will be available to hear your confession and pray with you. Or you can bring along a friend and practice confession with each other. There will be a time of corporate confession, as well as private time. There will also be a Wailing Wall to provide an environment for mourning losses, confessing sins, and offering the cries of our hearts before the Lord.
This prayer practice is rooted in Orthodox, Catholic, and Episcopal traditions, and it has aided believers throughout the life of the Church. After a brief overview of the history of the development, use, and variations of prayer ropes/beads, you’ll be able to create your own. Then we’ll engage in prayer using our new prayer ropes/beads together.
This seminar will be a time of dialogue concerning new research, data, and issues that are and will have an impact on youth ministry practice, philosophy, and theology. Come, dream, wrestle, and add to an agenda that might include everything from new theories on brain development, learning theory, and the three stages of adolescence/emerging adulthood, to books and debates regarding incarnational/relational youth ministry, sociological research, practical theology, and some kind-of-out-there-but-still-pretty-cool approaches to the ministry call and task, such as narrative theology and creation theology. We might even get into how and why new ways of thinking need to be front and center in our ministry thinking and practice.
